Stroszek - The Wild Hunt (2009)
Stroszek, the side project of Claudio Alcara of Frostmoon Eclipse fame participated on God is Myth Records on going H.P. Lovecraft series in 2009 with, ‘The Wild Hunt.’ In case you’re unfamiliar with this series, each of these EP’s are based on or have themes from Lovecraft stories as well each are released in 3” CDr format, they’ve each been limited to 100 copies and I’m fairly sure they’ve all sold out quickly.
Claudio’s music with Stroszek is acoustic folk-esque music that has a rather desperate sounding nature to it, but with a very honest overall mood. On this nineteen minute EP the listener see’s Claudio shift to an entirely acoustic format with some brief piano, while on the debut album, ‘Songs of Remorse’ electric guitar, bass and drums made their presence.
If you’ve ever heard any of the Frostmoon Eclipse acoustic pieces (Frostmoon are a black metal band btw) then you’ll already know that his playing is utterly breathtaking, beautiful and elaborate sounding in its execution and Stroszek is certainly no different. Each of these four songs are well composed gripping pieces of music that keep me entertained and craving more. Claudio’s voice conveys an introverted and depressive quality but as I already said it’s very sincere.
Generally speaking this certainly is perfect music to listen to on cold lonely winter nights with a quality wine or lager in hand while watching snow fall outside your window. If you missed this EP all I can say is too bad since its fantastic, but his new album, ‘Life Failures Made Music’ was just released so do check it out soon.
